History of Karnataka State Open University
Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) was established on 1 July 2006, by an Act of the legislature of Karnataka. The university is a state university and its jurisdiction covers the entire state of Karnataka. KSOU is the second open university in India and the first in Karnataka.
It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various disciplines such as arts, sciences, commerce and management, education, law, and social work. The university has a student population of over 18000 with 1000 faculty members from various universities across India. Also, there is an exchange agreement with universities in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States of America.

Postgraduate Admission Requirements for Karnataka State Open University
- A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
- A minimum of 50% in aggregate in all the subjects taken in the bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum achievement score of 50% in the GATE/MAT/CMAT/GMAT, whichever is applicable for the course for which the application is made.
- An applicant must have passed the All India competitive examination (Forensic Science-Police) with an overall percentage of at least 50%.
- Proof of having paid the fee for obtaining an undergraduate degree from a recognized university, or proof of exemption from payment of fees for underprivileged candidates.
- A certificate from the Board of Studies certifying that the applicant has eligibility to pursue a postgraduate degree from KASOU.
