Lakehead University is a public research institution that is known worldwide for providing outstanding learning experience. However, the university is located in Ontario, Canada with two main campuses in Thunder Bay and Orillia.
Lakehead University Canada was established in 1965 and its technical institute was founded in 1946. However, the motto of this university states “Ad augusta per angusta” in Latin which interprets “Achievement through effort” in English.
The University accommodates 2,250 academic staffs, 319 administrative staffs with over 8,000 students featuring 7,254 undergraduates, 594 postgraduates and up to 1400 international students. However, they offer over 57 field of study for undergraduate programs and up to 30 graduate programs.

Scholarships & Funding
Lakehead University offers one of the best international entrance scholarships yearly. However, this scholarship is awarded to every international student with superior achievements from high school entering Lakehead University or transferring from an international college or university, you’re eligible for the undergraduate entrance scholarship without any required application.
- If you’ve an academic average of 90% or more, which is equivalent to an IB average of 35+, then you’ll be rewarded $7,500 scholarship renewable each academic year provided you score within same average. In other words, you can receive up to $30,000 in four years.
- If you’ve an academic average between 80.0% – 89.9%, which is equivalent to an IB average of 30 – 34, then you’ll be rewarded $5,000 scholarship renewable each academic year provided you score within same average. In other words, you can receive up to $20,000 in four years.
- If you’ve an academic average between 75.0% – 79.9%, which is equivalent to an IB average of 28 – 29, then you’ll be rewarded $4,000 scholarship only in year 1 and not renewable.
The entrance scholarship offer is divided in two rounds, the first round will take place in February (each year) and the other round takes place in April (each year).
